More Hearts and Flowers
Cartoonists love Valentine's Day.
Lio has a great idea, but it is ultimately flawed in execution.
The annual Charlie Brown disappointment and descent into depression. Many can relate.
And of course Mark Trail with, uh... grizzly bear maulings... Well, that's Valentine's Day for you.

Mark Trail Update

"WHAT? SAY THAT ONCE MORE? YOU ARE TELLING ME THEN THAT I SHOULD COME IN FOR TESTS? BECAUSE THEY WILL ULTIMATELY LEAD TO AN OPERATION THAT WILL SAVE MY LIFE?"
Someone clearly forgot that we don't need one-sided, sitcom-style, dialog exposition when we know what the person on the other end of the phone is saying.

The Duck Story Endeth

And so, the tale of Homer and Shirley the Duck and Shirley the Person comes to an end. The ducklings have morphed into adulthood seemingly overnight, their once baby-blue plumage now green and... orange? I don't know where Shirley the Duck is. Devoured by her young, no doubt. And they seem to have excluded the final panel in which Homer goes into a Tony Soprano-esque meltdown as the ducklings flutter away. "Luca Brazzi sleeps with the muskies." Yeah I know that's The Godfather but when Christopher and Big Pussy were dumping that body in the first ep they... oh forget it.

Homer Simpleton

First of all, BLAARRGGHH.
And second..... AHA! So obsessing over Shirley the Duck was just an elaborate ruse to get some hot Betty White action! Homer, you're a manipulative, mopey, dumpy, dimwit.
I'm beginning to wonder why I care so much.

Homer Run, Homer Fall

So this is the sort of nonsense that has been going down in Mark Trail. I actually have very little to say about these shenanigans.

I am slightly bemused that big boss man keeps up to date with the goings on of his own company through a newspaper that magically updates every time there's a non-newsworthy event. Sounds like our local newspaper. Except for the magic part.

Hot Waterfowl Rappin'

Looks like Cherry's caught the vapors. The storyline, on the other hand, is colder than a foundered flounder, as the kids in Saskatchewan say.

Mark Trail Update

Seems like the Mark Trail craziness is actually creeping towards actual craziness, which is fine by me. Remember now, Homer called the duck Shirley, the name of his ex-wife. Oh, how I wish the final frame had this bit of dialog instead -
"I just hope we can hold out until OUR babies hatch!"
All would be right in my world.

Homer and the Duck

I have to mention that Mark Trail was far beyond awesome last week. Completely, ridiculously, amazingly idiotic. You should go and catch up on all the fun. I've been reading it here.
Check out the first panels of these two. You'd think if they were going to regurgitate drawings they'd at least wait a few days in between.

Mark Trail Awesomeness

Oh, man this is so wanting and needing to be parody yet is not, in fact, parody. Is there anyone else in the immediate vicinity that would like to elucidate on the releasing of birds? Mr. Squirrel, what say you?
Once again, got it from The Comics Curmudgeon, but only because it's the easiest and quickest way to pick up on the wackiness. Although I may officially be a Mark Trail fan now, so maybe I'll go to the source.

Killer Ducks

I officially can't wait for the day that a scenario presents itself to me where someone shouts, "What's happening?" and my sincere response is "Birds are everywhere!"
Mark Trail post #4? I can't remember.

Big Animules in My Dreams

Another grotesque monstrosity of a critter in Mark Trail. Incidentally, I had a dream last night about big animals. Here's how it went, and this is all the absolute truth, I swear -
I was a passenger in a elaborately constructed metal glider. Me and a bunch of people I know. Well, first we were attacked by gigantic storks, some with human bodies. We managed to evade them by employing some chain-type mechanism. And then we crashed into a lake full of fresh water sharks. These were just average in size. However, once we were airborne again, and flying over Kentucky, below us there appeared hundreds of giant gorillas fighting not-so-giant elephants. And then giant gorillas were dropping from the sky, from B-52s. And then a giant tucan attacked us, but I threw something sharp at it and it disappeared. We finally landed in a shallow cove, and the U.S. Marines came, and gave us a round of applause.
Thank you Mark Trail, for making my dreams incomprehensible and idiotic. Regardless, I hope it picks up where it left off when I fall asleep tonight.

Big Ol' Animules

This is nothing new for Comics Curmudgeon readers, but I'd like to point out to everyone else that humongoid animal mutations are quite commonplace in the strangely disturbing world of Mark Trail.![]()
Here, a gigantic goose comes to a reasonable conclusion about a visitors itinerary.
And here we're beaten over the head with some clunky symbolism. Kinda like the rat at the end of The Departed.
